Edible Design

Edible design

How can you make an elaborate meal more sustainable by making the table decoration edible?

During this small project I started working on the question of whether table decoration for large eateries could be more sustainable. After a fruitful brainstorming session, I came up with 'food decoration' . Containers, cups and many more shapes can perhaps be included in the taste experience.

Belcrumbak

How can landscaping connect people through both direct and indirect social contact? During this project there was a worldwide pandemic (Covid-19) and there was a great need for a connection between the residents of the Belcrum district in Breda. By setting up a project, the residents contributed to the greenery in the neighborhood, but there was also more social contact.

Internship report

I did an internship at Atelier van Asseldonk for a period of 4 months. During these months I learned a lot about myself and my positioning as a designer.

Garbage can full of fun!

Can I ensure that adults no longer see waste separation as an obligation but as a relief? Can this be achieved by means of visually more attractive trash cans and childlike playfulness in the bins?

The playful element is the most important thing that must come to the fore. As inspiration for the shape I used a korfball basket. This way people can throw away their waste in a playful way!

Multifunctional garden

How can you manipulate the space with a seating object? The chosen space to manipulate is a courtyard at AKV St. Joost. This space is not used, but could function ideally as a seat and small food supply . The theme of urban gardening is clearly reflected in the idea and mood board. As a design, Chermaine Vermeulen and I made a simple visualization together, due to the short time frame

I am Jan, St. Jan ...

How do I convey the history of the monumental buildings in the city to children in a playful way? Giving the past a new future, that is the essence of this project. Roosendaal, the city where I come from, has a wide range of valuable historical buildings in the city. To convey this to children in a fun, playful and educational way, this is a prototype of a possible teaching method to do that.

Privacy of the woman

How can I make women feel safer in public space? That no more #metoo situations will arise in the future?

During this project I was mainly driven by my own irritations.

Many men see women as an object of lust , a possession / property, someone who needs a man.

Minor trend watching

For six months I followed the minor trendwatching at Fontys Hogeschool in Tilburg. During this minor I learned to spot signals for new developments / trends and to analyze and apply them.

During this minor I gained a lot of valuable knowledge about working in a team and working with a stakeholder . This stakeholder was Leen Bakker in my trend report.

Connected

How can I show the connection that dancing gives? Ballroom dancing is a sport that is not much more practiced by the youth. From my own experience I know how valuable the connections you can gain with the people who also practice this sport are. But how can that connection be made visible to the outside world?

Ceramic tableware

During a week I started to learn the basic techniques of ceramics . Since I didn't know anything about this material yet, this was an instructive week.

Among other things, I learned how to make a one-piece plaster casting mold , what the differences are between earthenware and porcelain (casting clay) and how to glaze.
