How can I make women feel safer in public space? That no more #metoo situations will arise in the future?
During this project I was mainly driven by my own irritations.
Many men see women as an object of lust, a possession / property, someone who needs a man. You can regularly hear on the street; "hey, nice ass!" or "where is this nice girl going?" This not only happens on the street, but also when going out. Men rub against you or think they can bribe you with a drink and a gore opening line.
To highlight this problem, I have chosen 3 quotes that represent this problem for me. 'I am blond but not stupid', 'I cannot choose' and 'I want attention'. All three quotes have their own background and content. To communicate the quotes I have thought of different forms, as can be seen below. In the end I opted for the design of the jewelry, because tests showed that it is the shape that appeals to people the most.
In this project I first did desk research into what already existed. An important source of inspiration that I found here is the Instagram page Catcalls. This is an initiative from different cities in the world. Women in the city write statements in chalk on the ground that are offensive to women. These statements are also very different in terms of insults, one is worse than the other.

Testing different materials:
You can make a wearable piece of jewelry from aluminum in which a message can be conveyed.

Testing different materials:
Making texts on textiles with paint works well! Only it is too loud for this project.

I ultimately opted for a piece of jewelry for the elaboration. I chose this because women can easily carry this with them. In this way, they still have a helping hand with them, inconspicuously.
